DHAKA, AUG 8, (V7N) - A journalist named Asaduzzaman Tuhin was brutally murdered in the Chandana Chowrasta area of Gazipur on Thursday night. Tuhin, a staff reporter for the daily Protidiner Kagoj, was attacked by a group of 10-12 armed men with machetes and other sharp weapons while drinking tea at a roadside stall.
The incident occurred around 8 PM in front of the Mosque Market. According to eyewitnesses, the attackers chased Tuhin as he tried to flee into a nearby store before hacking him to death in full public view. He died on the spot. Police have recovered the body and sent it for a post-mortem examination.
While no video was found on his personal Facebook page, local witnesses and multiple reports suggest that Tuhin had gone live on Facebook earlier in the day to expose alleged extortion from footpaths and shops in the area. His last posted video, shared around 8 PM, was about people's tendency to cross roads without following rules in Gazipur. Police are currently investigating the motive and working to identify and arrest the attackers.
This attack follows another recent incident in the same district where a journalist, Anwar Hossain, was also brutally assaulted after protesting illegal extortion from footpath vendors, raising serious concerns about the safety of journalists in Bangladesh.
