Tangail, August 8 (V7N) – A joint operation led by Executive Magistrate Jannatul Naeem Binte Aziz on Thursday afternoon resulted in the arrest of five members of an alleged broker syndicate operating within the premises of Tangail General Hospital and Tangail Medical College Hospital. The accused were fined a total of BDT 16,500 and sentenced to varying terms of imprisonment under immediate summary trial.
The arrested individuals were identified as:
Masud Rana (27), son of Azizul Haque, from Chowdhury Malancha village, Magra Union, Tangail Sadar
Khokon Hossain (25), son of Sonawullah, from Bhalukkandi area, Tangail Municipality
Zahidul Islam (22), son of Aminul Islam, from Gala village, Gala Union, Tangail Sadar
Zahid Hossain (23), son of Nazrul Islam, from Salla village, Salla Union, Kalihati
Anis Mia (22), son of Kuddus Mia, from Sartia village, Gharinda Union, Tangail Sadar
According to Magistrate Binte Aziz, the group had long been harassing patients seeking medical care by posing as intermediaries and exploiting their vulnerabilities. Numerous complaints from patients and hospital staff prompted the operation, which aimed to root out illegal activities undermining hospital services.
The accused were tried under the Mobile Court Act and penalized for their involvement in activities that disrupted public service and exploited patients.
Security for the operation was provided by a patrol unit of the 24th East Bengal Regiment, led by Warrant Officer Md. Faruk of the Bangladesh Army, alongside other law enforcement agencies.
Officials stated that such operations will continue in the future to ensure a safe and harassment-free environment for patients and their families.
