Dhaka, Nov 26 (V7N) — Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary, Shafiqul Alam, stated that the interim government faces significant challenges in controlling protests without resorting to the harsh measures of a dictatorship. Speaking as the chief guest at a networking conference of a private university in the capital on Tuesday morning, Alam addressed criticisms surrounding the government’s handling of recent unrest.

Acknowledging public discontent, Alam remarked, “The government is being criticized for strictly controlling conflict and violence. Many compare our actions to those of the previous administration, leading to widespread condemnation on social media.”

He emphasised that the interim government is committed to listening to the people, contrasting its approach with that of the previous administration. “Meeting the expectations of the people is a big challenge. The previous government did not listen to the public, so there’s a demand for a more inclusive approach now,” Alam said.

On the topic of student violence, Alam revealed that investigations are ongoing to determine whether acts of sabotage are being orchestrated. “Efforts are being made to uncover any conspiracies behind the unrest,” he added.

The press secretary reiterated the government’s aim to address public concerns and uphold democratic principles, while balancing the need for security and order.
