Addressing a press conference at Ganobhaban on Friday morning, the Prime Minister highlighted the issue of commodity prices manipulation by individuals agitating against the government.

Referring to previous incidents of onion shortages, the Prime Minister expressed concern over instances where sacks of onions were found dumped into water bodies despite claims of scarcity. She asserted that those responsible for such actions should face mass punishment to deter future occurrences. Sheikh Hasina emphasized the importance of public involvement in addressing such issues, noting that accountability lies with the government if necessary actions are not taken.

During the press conference, the Prime Minister recalled past challenges, such as rice shortages, and highlighted the significant progress made in ensuring food security in the country. Sheikh Hasina reassured that measures are being taken to address onion production and distribution within the country, aiming to eliminate the need for imports in the future.

Regarding the importation of goods, the Prime Minister acknowledged discussions surrounding the topic and emphasized the primary objective of bringing illegally hoarded goods into the market. During the briefing, she shared insights and experiences from her recent visit to Germany, where she attended the Munich Security Conference.
