Dhaka, Dec 25 (V7N)— Firefighter Sohanuzzaman Nayan tragically lost his life while attempting to extinguish a fire at Building No. 7 of the Bangladesh Secretariat early Thursday morning. The incident occurred when he was struck by a truck while crossing the road to connect a water line.

Fire Service Director General (DG) Brigadier General Zahed Kamal confirmed the death during a briefing at the scene around 6:45 am. He stated, "Sohanuzzaman was fatally injured while performing his duty to control the fire. He was immediately rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead."

Sohanuzzaman, a member of the Tejgaon Special Unit of the Fire Service, hailed from Mithapukur Upazila in Rangpur. His father, Akhtaruzzaman, survives him. Inspector Md. Faruk of the Dhaka Medical College (DMCH) Police Outpost reported that the firefighter's body has been placed in the morgue.

The fire at Building No. 7 was reported at 1:52 am on Wednesday, with fire service units arriving at the scene within two minutes. A total of 19 units worked to control the blaze.

The accident highlights the risks firefighters face daily in their mission to protect lives and property. Investigations are ongoing into both the fire and the circumstances of Sohanuzzaman’s tragic death.
