Dhaka, Jan 16 (V7N) — Dr. Muhammad Yunus, Chief Advisor to the interim government, convened an all-party meeting on Thursday to deliberate on the July uprising declaration. The meeting, held at the Foreign Service Academy on Bailey Road, began after 4 p.m., with representatives from various political parties in attendance.
The event witnessed participation from key political figures, including BNP Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed, who joined amidst earlier uncertainty about his party's attendance. While BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir had expressed hesitation earlier in the day, Salahuddin clarified that he would refrain from commenting on the July declaration during the meeting. Instead, he would inform Dr. Yunus about the party’s need for additional time to form an opinion.
Jamaat-e-Islami was represented by a three-member delegation led by Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar. Other notable attendees included Jonayed Saki of the Democracy Forum, Hasnat Qayyum of the State Reform Movement, Nurul Haque Nur, President of the People's Rights Council, and Islamic Movement Bangladesh Ameer Mufti Syed Muhammad Rezaul Karim, represented by Senior Joint Secretary General Maulana Gazi Ataur Rahman and Engineer Ashraful Alam.
Before entering the meeting, Jonayed Saki stated that the Democracy Forum would not engage in discussions on the declaration but would instead address the procedural concerns surrounding the meeting's organisation.
The gathering marks a significant step in fostering dialogue among political parties as the nation grapples with crucial decisions ahead of the next general election. Further developments from the meeting are awaited as the political landscape remains tense.
