Dhaka, Jan 18 (V7N) — The interim government has invited opinions from stakeholders, including political parties and the general public, regarding the draft of the July Uprising Declaration. Stakeholders have until January 23 to submit their feedback via letter, as announced by the Chief Advisor's press wing on Saturday.
The government aims to finalise a revised, universally acceptable version of the declaration following an all-party dialogue and a review of public and stakeholder feedback. Once finalised, the declaration will be announced publicly.
On Thursday, leaders from various political parties, including the BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami, as well as representatives from the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement and the National Citizens' Committee, participated in discussions about the draft declaration.
The draft, prepared before the meeting, proposes amendments to, or potentially the repeal of, the 1972 Constitution. It also outlines that the declaration would retroactively come into effect from August 5, 2024.
The draft declaration had sparked political debates when the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement and the National Citizens' Committee sought to unveil it at the Central Shaheed Minar in Dhaka on December 31, 2024.
The interim government’s move to seek opinions reflects an effort to ensure the declaration garners broader acceptance and addresses concerns raised by stakeholders.
