Khagrachhari, August 4 (V7N) – Pankhaiya Para Road, one of the key and densely populated areas under Khagrachhari Municipality, is facing severe waterlogging problems due to inadequate drainage connections. Recently, the municipality undertook partial reconstruction and repair of drains along the road, but improper and incomplete drainage connections have led to persistent flooding during the rainy season.
The drainage system connecting Chaibla Para and Noyonpur adjacent to the local stream lacks proper planning, causing water to flow back onto the road during rainfall or hill runoff. This reversed flow leads to widespread waterlogging, turning the area into a constant zone of hardship for residents and commuters.
The waterlogging disrupts daily life by hampering business activities, pedestrian movement, student commutes, and vehicle traffic. Many shops suffer water intrusion, resulting in property damage and losses for business owners. After the water recedes, mud and silt accumulate on the road surface, creating muddy conditions that dry into dust on sunny days, further degrading the road’s condition.
Locals have expressed concern that if this drainage issue is not properly addressed and the road’s condition is allowed to deteriorate, it will cause long-term suffering for residents and damage the reputation of the municipality.
Residents demand a thorough review of the drainage connections and water discharge system on Pankhaiya Para Road. They urge the authorities to ensure proper planning and implementation of drainage outlets into the stream, including reconstruction or alternative drainage arrangements if necessary, to prevent recurring waterlogging and restore normal life in the area.
