Dhaka, Jan 22 (V7N) — A bomb threat was issued against a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight travelling from Rome, Italy, to Dhaka, prompting immediate security measures at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. The airport director confirmed the incident to Media.
The flight, carrying 250 passengers and 13 crew members, landed safely at 9:20 am. Shortly after, at 10:30 am, a bomb disposal unit boarded the aircraft to conduct a thorough search of its seats, corridors, toilets, and cafes.
Passengers and crew were evacuated and moved to the terminal building, where they remain under observation. Immigration procedures have been suspended, and no one is being allowed to leave until the aircraft is declared completely safe. Law enforcement officers have cordoned off the plane to ensure security.
According to initial reports, the bomb threat was not communicated to the flight crew but was instead sent via WhatsApp to Group Captain Kamrul Islam, the director of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. The threat was also reportedly called in to the airport from an unknown number, but the details of the call remain unclear as of 10:20 am.
