Dhaka, Jan 29 (V7N) — Legal steps will be taken against foreign nationals who will stay in Bangladesh without valid documents after Saturday, Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has said.
The home adviser made the statement while speaking at a press briefing at the Secretariat on the upcoming DG-level border conference between India and Bangladesh.
Visa determines the time of stay in any country and if someone overstays, he/she has to pay a fine, he said.
“We have increased this fine fivefold—previously, it was Tk200 per day, but now it has been set at Tk1,000 per day,” he said.
Earlier foreigners had to pay a maximum of Tk30,000 in fines for staying illegally in the country, no matter how long someone stayed illegally but it was abolished later.
