Dhaka, February 13 (V7N) – Bangladesh has sent the necessary documents to India to bring back ousted Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina under the existing prisoner exchange agreement, according to Foreign Ministry spokesperson Rafiqul Alam.

At a weekly briefing on Thursday, Rafiqul Alam stated that the United Nations Fact-Finding Mission's report on the July-August massacre may increase pressure on India to extradite Sheikh Hasina. He also mentioned that the government is considering whether to engage friendly countries for diplomatic efforts regarding this issue.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh is still waiting for the agrément of its designated High Commissioner to India, Riaz Hamidullah. Rafiqul Alam noted that such approvals typically take two and a half to three months.

Additionally, the Italian Vice Minister Maria Tripoli is scheduled to visit Dhaka on February 18.
