Dhaka, Feb 20 (V7N) – Another 492 people have been arrested in the past 28 hours as part of the ongoing Operation Devil Hunt, a joint security crackdown across the country.
According to a statement from the police headquarters on Thursday afternoon, a total of 1,752 people were arrested from Wednesday night to Thursday for various offenses. This includes:
- 492 individuals arrested under Operation Devil Hunt
- 1,260 individuals detained in connection with other cases and warrants
Weapons Seized
Security forces also recovered the following weapons in the last 24 hours:
- Two domestic pipe guns
- Six rounds of cartridges
- One chapati (machete)
- One ramda (curved blade weapon)
The crackdown follows the February 7 attack on students in Gazipur, which led to mass protests by the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement and the National Citizens Committee the next day. In response, the interim government launched Operation Devil Hunt on February 8, aimed at strengthening national security and restoring order.
The operation is ongoing across the country, including in Gazipur, where tensions remain high.
