Dhaka, Feb 20 (V7N) – The Anti-Discrimination Student Movement has announced a protest march and rally in response to an attack on a student at Sylhet MC College, allegedly by Shibir activists. The demonstration will take place at 8 PM today (Thursday) at the foot of the Raju Sculpture at Dhaka University.
The announcement was made on the verified Facebook page of the movement after 5 PM today. The student-led platform, which initially formed to protest against government job quotas and later played a key role in the July coup, has stated that it maintains zero tolerance for terrorism. Students have been urged to join the protest.
The incident occurred on Wednesday night at the MC College dormitory in Sylhet. The victim, Mizanur Rahman Riyad, a third-year honors student, was reportedly beaten and injured. He alleged that the attack was carried out by Shibir members in response to his derogatory Facebook comments about the mass uprising.
Riyad, an active member of the Islamic organization Talamiyyah Islamia, stated that he was familiar with his attackers.
Talamiyyah Islamia MC College Branch President Albab Hossain accused Shibir of intolerant behavior and acting aggressively over minor incidents.
MC College Shibir President Ismail Khan denied the allegations, calling it a third-party conspiracy to defame the organization.
BNP-affiliated Chhatra Dal expressed concern on its verified Facebook page, questioning whether bloodshed politics was making a return to campus.
With rising tensions, security measures are expected to be heightened at Dhaka University and MC College as the protest approaches.
