KHAGRACHHARI, July 8 (V7N) – As part of nationwide celebrations, Khagrachhari observed the conclusion of a nine-day-long Ratha Yatra festival with a vibrant and ceremonial Ulto Rath (Return Chariot) procession on Friday afternoon.
Watch: Grand Ulto Rath Yatra Procession Concludes Ratha Festival in Khagrachhari
The day began with a religious discussion session at the central Sri Sri Lakshmi Narayan Temple, which marked the formal end of the festivities. Following the session, the grand return chariot procession commenced from the temple premises, moved through Shantinagar and Khagrachhari Gate, and concluded at the Sri Sri Bank Bihari ISKCON Temple.
The Ratha Yatra commemorates Lord Krishna’s journey to Vrindavan, accompanied by his elder brother Balabhadra (Balaram) and sister Subhadra. Each deity rides in a separate, ornately decorated chariot, each with its own symbolic elements and divine companions.
Balabhadra’s chariot, named Taladhwaj, features Vasudev as guardian, Satyaki as charioteer, and bears the flag Unnani. The pulling rope is called Basuki Nag, and nine deities accompany the deity, including Kartik, Ganesh, Sarbamangala, Mrityunjay, and Mukteshwar.
Subhadra’s chariot, named Darpadalana (also known as Padmadhwaj for its lotus insignia), has Arjuna as charioteer, the flag Nadambika, and rope Swarnachura Naguni. It includes nine goddess figures such as Chandi, Chamunda, Banadurga, Shulidurga, Shyamakali, Mangala, and Bimala.
Volunteers and organizers from multiple Hindu social and cultural organizations ensured smooth proceedings, including representatives from:
Sanatan Samaj Kalyan Parishad (Sadar branch)
Bagishik Khagrachhari district unit
Bangladesh Sammilito Sanatani Jagaran Jote
Jago Hindu Parishad
Along with various other local religious and youth groups.
The event reflected unity, devotion, and vibrant cultural heritage, drawing large participation from the Hindu community and onlookers.
