Background of the Operation
The crackdown was launched in response to the February 7 attack on 15 to 16 students at the residence of former Liberation War Minister AKM Mozammel Haque in Gazipur, which resulted in the death of one student during treatment.
Following the incident, a high-level security meeting was held with officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs, law enforcement agencies, and other security bodies, leading to the launch of Operation Devil Hunt on February 8 to enhance national security.
Conflicting Claims Over Attack
The Anti-Discrimination Student Movement claims that the students had gone to Mozammel Haque’s house after receiving news of a robbery but were attacked instead.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances of the attack while the special operation remains ongoing.
