Dhaka, Feb 27 (V7N) – Md. Mahfuz Alam has been appointed as the advisor to the Information and Broadcasting Ministry, following the resignation of Md. Nahid Islam from the same position in the interim government.
The Cabinet Division issued a notification on Wednesday announcing Mahfuz Alam's new role. Nahid Islam submitted his resignation to Chief Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus at the State Guest House Jamuna on Tuesday, which sparked discussions about the leadership of the information and broadcasting ministry. Speculation surrounding Mahfuz Alam’s potential appointment had been widespread prior to the announcement.
Mahfuz Alam had previously taken an oath as an advisor on November 10 last year but had not been assigned to any specific ministry until now. Before this, he was appointed as Special Assistant to the Chief Advisor on August 28, shortly after the formation of the interim government.
A graduate of the Law Department at Dhaka University, Mahfuz Alam is recognized for his significant involvement in the anti-Hasina government movement, which emerged from the student movement against discrimination. His appointment is seen as a strategic move amid ongoing political changes in the country.
