Dhaka, Mar 13 (V7N)–Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus on Thursday expressed profound shock at the death of an eight-year-old rape victim from Magura at the Combined Military Hospital in Dhaka, ordering authorities to bring to book the perpetrators through a speedy trial.
Chief Adviser's Deputy Press Secretary Apurba Jahangir reported the chief adviser's statement.
The girl, who had been battling for her life after being brutally tortured, passed away at CMH in the afternoon, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations Directorate (ISPR).
She breathed her last at around 1pm, "despite receiving advanced medical care and the relentless efforts of expert doctors at CMH," ISPR said in a press release.
The statement said the child suffered three cardiac arrests in the morning. “While medical teams managed to revive her twice, the third proved fatal,” it said.
The critically injured girl was admitted to CMH on Saturday for emergency treatment.
