Dhaka, Mar 13 (V7N) – Around 80,000 Bangladeshi students are currently on the waiting list for German visas, according to German Ambassador to Bangladesh Achim Troster.

In a post on his official X handle on Wednesday, the ambassador revealed that these students had applied for visas across the academic years 2023, 2024, and 2025.

Breaking down the numbers, Troster stated that 18,583 applications were submitted in 2022 and 2023. In 2024, the visa requests continued to surge, with:

  • 10,955 applications in Q1
  • 10,635 applications in Q2
  • 16,469 applications in Q3
  • 14,476 applications in Q4

Additionally, 8,762 students have already submitted applications for January 2025 onward, bringing the total pending applications to 79,880.

The massive backlog highlights the growing demand for higher education opportunities in Germany among Bangladeshi students. However, processing delays remain a challenge, prompting concerns about the need for an expedited visa approval system.
