During a reception in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, Foreign Minister and Awami League Joint General Secretary Dr. Hasan Mahmud appealed to Bangladeshi expatriates in Saudi Arabia to utilize legal channels when sending remittances back to their homeland.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Hasan Mahmud highlighted the significant presence of approximately 3 million Bangladeshis residing in Saudi Arabia, emphasizing that each expatriate serves as a representative of their country. He underscored the importance of adhering to legal channels for remittance transfers, stating that such actions would greatly contribute to the country's economy.
The Foreign Minister emphasized the friendly relations between Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia, attributing the multidimensional nature of the relationship to the efforts of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's government. He noted the transition from a primarily manpower-export-based relationship to one encompassing cooperation in various sectors such as petroleum, agriculture, environment, infrastructure development, trade, investment, and technology.
Dr. Hasan Mahmud recounted his recent participation in the 19th Extraordinary Session of the OIC Foreign Ministers in Jeddah, along with meetings with the Saudi Foreign Minister and the OIC Secretary General. He highlighted discussions regarding the proposed visit of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to Bangladesh, as well as cooperation in petroleum purchase and industrial endeavors, which were conducted in a cordial atmosphere, with the Saudi Foreign Minister expressing a commitment to Bangladesh's interests.
The reception was attended by Bangladesh Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Dr. Mohammad Javed Patwary, Consul General in Jeddah Muhammad Nazmul Haque, and other dignitaries.
