DHAKA, March 30, (V7N) – Chief Adviser’s High Representative, Khalilur Rahman, stated today that Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus’ recently concluded visit to China has laid a strong foundation for bilateral relations for the next few decades.

“This year marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Bangladesh. This visit is, therefore, of historic significance,” Rahman said at a press conference held at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka.

At the briefing, Chowdhury Ashik Mahmud Bin Harun, Executive Chairman of Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) and Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA), highlighted the growing economic partnership between the two nations.

Bangladesh invited Chinese companies to participate in the Teesta River Comprehensive Management and Restoration Project (TRCMRP), with China responding positively. Rahman also appreciated China’s role in promoting peace talks on Myanmar and aiding the resolution of the Rohingya crisis.

China reaffirmed its support for Bangladesh and Myanmar to find a mutually acceptable solution for the repatriation of Rohingyas, pledging continued assistance in the process.

Rahman revealed that China has established four specialized hospitals in Kunming for Bangladeshis and is planning to set up a similar facility in Bangladesh.

Meanwhile, BEZA and BIDA are advancing bilateral investment opportunities. Chowdhury Ashik stated that over 100 Chinese companies were engaged in discussions, with a presentation made on Bangladesh’s business-friendly environment and recent investment climate reforms.

During the visit, Bangladesh and China signed agreements on Economic and Technical Cooperation and various collaboration areas, including cultural heritage, news exchange, sports, media, and health.

During bilateral talks in Beijing on March 28, Chief Adviser Prof. Yunus met Chinese President Xi Jinping. Both nations pledged to uphold the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, deepen political mutual trust, and advance their Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership.

China reaffirmed its support for Bangladesh’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity, endorsing the country's independent development path. China also committed to strengthening governance and stability in Bangladesh while fostering its progress.

At the invitation of the Boao Forum for Asia, Prof. Yunus attended the Annual Conference 2025 in Hainan from March 26 to 27. He later visited Beijing from March 27 to 29, at the invitation of the Chinese government.

On March 29, he received an honorary doctorate degree from Peking University (PKU) and delivered a lecture.

During his visit, Prof. Yunus expressed deep appreciation to President Xi Jinping and the Chinese people for their warm hospitality and extended an invitation for President Xi to visit Bangladesh at a mutually convenient time.

The visit has reinforced Bangladesh’s commitment to expanding bilateral relations with China, ensuring mutual prosperity and long-term cooperation.
