Dhaka, Apr 11 (V7N) – The Bangladesh Police is set to introduce a newly redesigned logo, replacing the emblem in use since 2009. The new design removes the iconic sailing boat, a long-standing symbol of the force, and instead incorporates national elements like the lotus flower, rice and wheat ears, and jute leaves—emphasizing a stronger connection with the country’s heritage and agriculture.
This update was confirmed in a letter issued on Thursday (April 10) by Nasima Begum, Additional Deputy Inspector General (Logistics) at the Police Headquarters. The letter announced that the redesigned logo has received final approval and is now awaiting official notification before it becomes mandatory across the police force
-
Omission of the traditional sailing boat
-
Inclusion of lotus – the national flower of Bangladesh
-
Ears of rice and wheat, representing the country’s agricultural roots
-
Jute leaves, reflecting Bangladesh’s once-thriving golden fiber industry
-
The word 'Police' prominently displayed on the jute leaves
According to the directive, the new logo will be required for immediate and compulsory use in all districts and units of the police once the notification is issued. Preparations have been directed to update all relevant items bearing the police emblem, including uniforms, flags, signboards, and official documents.
"All districts and units are instructed to be ready for the transition to the new logo immediately upon issuance of the formal notification," the letter stated.
The decision comes amid a broader rebranding initiative following recent political changes. Discussions around modifying both the uniform and monogram have been underway for some time. A trial of the new police uniform has already been conducted, and the finalization of the logo marks the next step in that process.
The current police logo, introduced in 2009, features:
-
A sailing boat flanked by paddy and wheat sheaves
-
A lotus flower above the sail
-
The word "Police" written in Bengali below the boat
Prior to that, a different monogram had been in use following a notification on February 10, 2004.
The removal of the sailing boat—a symbol long associated with rural life, struggle, and service—is seen as a significant shift in the identity of the Bangladesh Police. Officials suggest that the new logo aims to modernize the force’s image while still grounding it in national and cultural motifs.
Once the final notification is issued, the rollout is expected to occur simultaneously nationwide, marking a new visual chapter for the Bangladesh Police.
