Dhaka, Apr 16 (V7N) – The Election Commission (EC) is moving forward with preparations for the 13th National Assembly elections, assuming they will be held in December 2025. To this end, the EC will announce a comprehensive election roadmap by July, said Election Commissioner Anwarul Islam Sarkar.

Speaking to journalists at the Election Commission building on Wednesday afternoon, Commissioner Anwarul Islam stated that the EC plans to hold dialogues with stakeholders, including political parties, between August and September. These discussions are intended to ensure broader consensus and transparency in the electoral process.

He further added that the final schedule for the elections will only be announced after consultations with stakeholders. The EC is also taking steps to ensure that citizens turning 18 before the schedule is announced will be able to vote.

However, the commission has no current plans to reopen or extend the registration period for new political parties.

Regarding technical preparations, the Election Commissioner noted that the process of constituency delimitation could be completed within three months, provided a printing error in the existing legal framework is corrected in time.

The EC’s announcement adds further clarity to the timeline and preparations for the national elections, amid ongoing discussions and demands from major political parties.
