Dhaka, Apr 20 (V7N)- Legal Advisor Dr. Asif Nazrul has called for the speedy completion of the investigation into the murder case filed against Dhaka College student Faiyaz during the recent protest movement. He emphasized that the Law Ministry cannot intervene unless the investigative process is completed.
Dr. Nazrul made these remarks while inaugurating a training course for assistant judges at the Judicial Administration Training Institute on Sunday morning (April 20).
He stated, “Two individuals have already given confessional statements under Section 164. If those statements are not withdrawn, finalizing the investigation report or resolving the case will become very difficult.” He added that the delay of over eight months in this matter is the responsibility of the Home Ministry and the police, who are fully in charge of the case.
Addressing broader issues within the judiciary, Asif Nazrul stressed the need to elevate the Judicial Administration Training Institute to a regional standard. “We must prepare this institute in such a way that trainees from other South Asian countries feel encouraged to come here,” he said.
He also urged judges to remain honest and refrain from financial corruption, emphasizing, “The benefits have nothing to do with the duty. A judge must fulfill their responsibilities even in the absence of incentives.”
Criticizing political interference in the judiciary, he remarked, “During the previous Awami League government, many would come to this institute just to give political speeches. That must not be repeated.”
It is notable that Dr. Asif Nazrul had previously assured that the investigation into the Faiyaz case would be settled by Sunday, but no official closure has yet been announced.
