Dhaka, Apr 30 (V7N)- Labor and Employment Advisor Brigadier General (Retd) Dr. M. Sakhawat Hossain announced that major changes are coming to Bangladesh’s labor law, with the goal of ensuring both human rights and workers' rights. He made the statement at a press conference held at the Secretariat ahead of May Day.

He emphasized that the interim government is working toward passing the revised labor law within its tenure, and stressed that cooperation from both employers and workers is essential to move forward.

Addressing current challenges, the advisor said the government is actively dealing with worker dissatisfaction and has taken steps for worker welfare, including the formation of a Department of Employment that will offer training programs to upskill laborers.

On the issue of child labor, he acknowledged its continued presence due to socio-economic realities, despite legal prohibitions.

This year’s May Day and National Occupational Health and Safety Day will be observed with various programs. The theme:

“Owners and workers unite, let’s build this country anew.”
