Dhaka, May 12 (V7N) – Professor Dr. Ali Riaz, Vice-Chairman of the National Consensus Commission, has emphasized that the current political climate presents a unique opportunity to build an accountable and democratic state. He urged all political forces to actively engage in the reconstruction of the state.

Dr. Riaz made the remarks on Monday morning (May 12) at the LD Hall of the National Parliament Building, prior to the start of a dialogue session with the Democratic Left Unity.

Reflecting on Bangladesh’s political journey, Dr. Riaz said, “For 53 years, the dream of establishing a democratic state has been repeatedly dashed. Following the coup of the 24th, there is now a collective responsibility to realize that long-standing aspiration.”

During the session, leaders of the Democratic Left Unity reiterated their commitment to reforms, stating that the reform agenda must be rooted in the principles of socialism. They further demanded that funds laundered abroad be recovered and distributed among the families of those martyred or injured during past political unrest.

The dialogue marks a growing push from various quarters to redefine the country's political framework in the wake of recent upheaval and renewed calls for justice and structural change.
