Dhaka, Jun 09 (V7N) — Home Affairs Advisor Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury clarified on Monday that former President Abdul Hamid was not arrested as there is no arrest warrant against him.
Speaking to journalists after visiting Jatrabari Police Station, the advisor said the investigation into the allegations against Abdul Hamid is ongoing. “The issue of arrest will arise only if the accusations are proven,” he added. Emphasizing fairness, he stated that no citizen should face harassment and that legal actions are taken only after thorough verification. A three-member committee from the Ministry of Home Affairs is overseeing the investigation.
Lieutenant General Chowdhury also expressed satisfaction with law enforcement activities during Eid-ul-Azha, noting that life remained normal except for minor theft incidents. During his visit, he checked on the welfare and facilities provided to police personnel on duty.
Former President Abdul Hamid returned to Dhaka early Sunday morning on a Thai Airways flight from Bangkok, where he had been receiving medical treatment since May 8.
The political environment has been tense since his departure, with a murder case filed against him in Kishoreganj.
