Dhaka, June 14 (V7N) — Home Affairs Advisor Retired Lieutenant General Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has announced that regular field police will soon be equipped with rifles, while specialized units like the Armed Police Battalion (APBN) will be provided with heavy weapons to strengthen security operations.

He made the announcement while speaking to reporters after visiting the APBN headquarters in the capital on Saturday (June 14) morning.

“The regular police force will be provided with rifles, but they will not be issued with heavy weapons. However, specialized forces like the APBN will have access to heavy weaponry,” the Home Affairs Advisor said.

He emphasized that the government is working for the overall modernization and development of the police and other law enforcement agencies, including upgrading facilities at police stations and enhancing the operational capacity of specialized units like the APBN.

Speaking about the general security situation in the country, the advisor said, “The law and order situation has improved significantly in the 11 months of the interim government’s tenure.”

Regarding the recently concluded Eid-ul-Azha celebrations, he added, “The people of the country celebrated Eid peacefully, except for one or two isolated incidents.”

The government’s focus on equipping law enforcement agencies with better weapons and facilities is part of its broader efforts to maintain internal security and stability.
