Gazipur, June 23 (V7N) — Home Affairs Advisor Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has strongly condemned the recent mob harassment of former Chief Election Commissioner Nurul Huda, calling such acts unacceptable.
Speaking to journalists after visiting the Mouchake Horticulture Center in Gazipur on Monday morning, the advisor addressed rumors regarding the arrest of former Chief Election Commissioner Habibul Awal. He clarified that the news of Awal’s arrest was incorrect, stating that although Awal was taken into custody in Uttara, he has not been formally arrested yet.
Advisor Jahangir Alam expressed concern over the manner in which the arrest was conducted, highlighting that the use of mob justice in the presence of law enforcement is undesirable. He emphasized that if any law enforcement personnel are found complicit in such incidents, strict legal action will be pursued following a thorough investigation.
On a separate note, the advisor spoke about the ongoing efforts to enact the Agricultural Land Protection Act aimed at preventing encroachment of agricultural land. He stressed the importance of increasing domestic fruit production alongside imported varieties to safeguard local fruit cultivation.
During his visit to the horticulture center, Advisor Jahangir Alam toured various sections, interacted with officials and staff, and issued directives for improving operations. Also present at the inspection were Gazipur Deputy Commissioner Nafisa Arefin, Superintendent of Police Dr. Chowdhury Jaber Sadek, Horticulture Center head Enamul Haque, and senior officials from the police and the Ministry of Agriculture.
