Dhaka, June 29 (V7N) — A delegation representing the protesting officials and employees of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) Reform Unity Council is scheduled to meet Finance Advisor Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed at 4 PM today (Sunday) as part of efforts to resolve the ongoing impasse.
The meeting was arranged following an invitation conveyed through NBR members, according to the Secretary General of the Unity Council. The delegation is expected to head to the Secretariat once the time is formally confirmed.
Meanwhile, the full shutdown program called by the NBR Reform Unity Council entered its second day. Since morning, officials and employees from various tax zones have gathered in front of the NBR headquarters, demanding the removal of the NBR chairman as their primary demand. Protesters have vowed to continue their program until their demands are met.
Law enforcement personnel have been deployed in the area as a precaution.
The strike has caused significant disruption in business and commerce activities, while service recipients are reportedly being deprived of essential services. However, international passenger services have been kept outside the purview of the shutdown to avoid inconveniencing travelers.
The current phase of the movement, which began on June 22, has intensified, with protesters determined to press on until their conditions are fulfilled.
