Dhaka, Aug 31 (V7N) – Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam has confirmed that the upcoming 13th National Parliament elections will be held in the first half of February, in line with the earlier announcement made by Chief Advisor Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus.
Speaking to reporters after Sunday’s (August 31) political dialogue at the State Guest House Jamuna, the Press Secretary said the Chief Advisor had conveyed his firm commitment to the political parties, emphasizing that “there is no alternative to elections.” He warned that entertaining any alternative would be “deeply dangerous for the country.”
Discussions at the meeting also focused on finalizing the July Charter, with political parties providing their respective opinions. The Chief Advisor urged all parties to remain cautious during the upcoming Durga Puja celebrations, to ensure no unpleasant incidents occur.
Shafiqul Alam further stated that political leaders shared varying views on the Jatiya Party’s role in the elections. Meanwhile, the National Consensus Commission is expected to announce its position on adopting a proportional representation (PR) system.
He also hinted at a resolution to the unrest at Chittagong University, saying: “Good news may come overnight. The local administration is working sincerely to restore order there.”
