Dhaka, Sep 02 (V7N) – Legal Advisor Dr. Asif Nazrul has indicated that a third International Crimes Tribunal may be formed to accelerate the trial of crimes against humanity committed during the July–August movement.
Speaking to reporters after visiting the tribunal premises on Tuesday morning, Dr. Nazrul said the government is placing the highest priority on ensuring justice for the massacre. “The pace of the trial is satisfactory, but a third tribunal could help complete proceedings more quickly,” he added.
Housing, Public Works and Industries Advisor Adilur Rahman Khan, Attorney General Mohammad Asaduzzaman, and Chief Prosecutor Advocate Tajul Islam were also present during the visit.
Currently, trials are being conducted in Tribunal-1 and Tribunal-2. However, as the renovation of the main tribunal building has not yet been completed, the proceedings of Tribunal-2 are temporarily being held in a tin shed structure.
Testimony in several cases, including those against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, is nearing its final stage. Formal charges have already been framed in multiple cases, and the tribunals are taking testimony from survivors, eyewitnesses, and expert witnesses.
