Dhaka, Sep 07 (V7N) – Professor Muhammad Yunus, Chief Advisor to the interim government, has expressed deep grief over the passing of writer, researcher, intellectual, and leftist politician Badruddin Umar.

In a condolence message on Sunday, Prof. Yunus highlighted Badruddin Umar’s lifelong dedication to intellectual freedom, research, and social progress. He recalled Umar’s early academic career at Dhaka University and later at Rajshahi University, noting his active role in the Language Movement and his unwavering commitment to socialist philosophy.

Prof. Yunus also praised Umar’s vocal stance against injustice and his recognition of the July Movement as an unprecedented mass uprising in the subcontinent. He said, “Badruddin Umar was not just a theorist, but a fighter who remained steadfast against authoritarianism throughout his life.”

The Chief Advisor noted that the government had nominated Umar for the Swadhinata Puraskar in recognition of his glorious contributions at the national level. Terming his death an irreparable loss for the nation, Prof. Yunus said Umar’s writings and life philosophy will continue to guide future generations of thinkers.

Badruddin Umar, aged 94, had long been suffering from various age-related complications and passed away on Sunday morning while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Dhaka. Prof. Yunus extended his condolences to Umar’s family, colleagues, and well-wishers.
