Dhaka, Sep 12 (V7N) – Sheikh Bashiruddin, Trade Advisor of Bangladesh, said that while the country is ahead in several sectors, including ready-made garments, overall progress remains limited. He made these remarks at the Belt and Road Initiative in Bangladesh Exhibition held at the Bashundhara Convention Center on Friday (Sept 12).
Bashiruddin noted that Chinese investment in Bangladesh has increased by 300 percent. “We need to identify our weaknesses and move forward by exchanging experiences. If we can leverage China’s expertise in production and packaging, there is a real opportunity for growth,” he said.
He also expressed concern over the high number of road accident fatalities in Bangladesh, emphasizing the need to improve road infrastructure and transportation systems.
The Trade Advisor further announced that a delegation from the US government will visit Dhaka next Sunday to discuss tariff issues, and meetings will focus on how to structure tariffs effectively.
The Belt and Road Initiative in Bangladesh Exhibition, organized by the Chinese Embassy, will continue until September 13 from 10 am to 7 pm daily. A total of 40 companies – eight from Bangladesh and 32 from China – are participating in the exhibition.
