Dhaka, Sep 21 (V7N) – Professor Muhammad Yunus, Chief Advisor to the interim government, is set to leave Dhaka for New York on Sunday night to attend the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

According to the tour schedule, he will arrive in New York on September 22 and deliver his address to the General Assembly on September 26.

Dr. Yunus will be accompanied by four senior political figures:

  • Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Secretary General of BNP

  • Syed Abdullah Muhammad Taher, Nayeb-e-Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami

  • Akhtar Hossain, Member Secretary of the National Citizens Party (NCP)

  • Humayun Kabir, BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman’s foreign affairs advisor

Foreign Affairs Advisor Md. Towhid Hossain earlier told reporters that the Chief Advisor will present the reforms undertaken over the past year and reaffirm Bangladesh’s commitment to building a truly democratic state system through the upcoming national elections.

In addition, Dr. Yunus will join a high-level meeting on “The Situation of Rohingya Muslims and Other Minorities in Myanmar,” chaired by the UNGA President, on September 30.

He is scheduled to return home on October 2 after completing his visit.
