Dhaka, Oct 10 (V7N) – The Bangladesh government has confirmed that diplomatic efforts are underway, in coordination with Turkey, to secure the release of Bangladeshi photographer and journalist Shahidul Alam, who is currently being held in Israeli custody.
According to a statement issued by the Press Wing of the Chief Adviser’s Office on Friday (October 10), Turkish authorities have expressed optimism about the possibility of bringing Shahidul Alam to Ankara on a special flight as early as today. However, they cautioned that a 100% guarantee could not yet be given.
Bangladesh’s Ambassador to Turkey, Amanul Haque, confirmed that Turkish officials are actively engaged in the process and maintaining close communication with relevant authorities.
The statement added that following Shahidul Alam’s illegal detention by Israeli forces, Bangladesh’s embassies in Jordan, Egypt, and Turkey were instructed to reach out to the respective foreign ministries and take urgent steps for his release. The embassies remain in constant contact with local authorities regarding the matter.
It is worth noting that on October 8, Israeli forces seized the largest vessel of the Freedom Flotilla Coalition, The Conscience, which was en route to Gaza carrying 93 human rights activists, including Shahidul Alam.
