Bhola, Oct 25 (V7N) — The 22-day government ban on Hilsa fishing during the main breeding season ended at midnight on Saturday (October 25). Following the lifting of the restriction, fishermen in Bhola have returned to the Meghna and Tetulia rivers to resume fishing.

Although the expected abundance of Hilsa has not yet been seen, fishermen expressed satisfaction with their catches. In addition to Hilsa, they are netting other valuable fish such as koral, pangas, and poya in good quantities.

Local fishermen said they are now heading to the rivers in groups, filled with renewed hope after weeks of inactivity. Many believe that if the current pace of catches continues for another week, they will be able to repay their debts incurred during the ban period.

It may be recalled that the government imposed a 22-day ban from October 4, prohibiting fishing of all species, including Hilsa, in the Meghna and Tetulia rivers of Bhola to ensure safe breeding and conserve fish stocks.
