Dhaka, Nov 17 (V7N) – Legal Advisor Professor Asif Nazrul has welcomed the death sentence for ousted former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, calling it a landmark moment of justice for the July Uprising.

Speaking shortly after the verdict was announced today (November 17), Nazrul said, “Justice has been established in the country by issuing the death sentence for Sheikh Hasina. Today is another victory day for the July Uprising.”

He added that Sheikh Hasina would have faced similar sentencing in any court in the world. Regarding her possible return to Bangladesh, Nazrul noted that if India receives a formal extradition request and fails to return her, it would reflect hostility and indifference toward the people of Bangladesh.

Earlier, immediately after the verdict, Nazrul posted on his verified Facebook page, expressing his gratitude: “Sheikh Hasina’s death sentence. Thank God, Alhamdulillah.”

The verdict was handed down by the three-member International Crimes Tribunal-1, headed by Justice Golam Mortuza Majumder, with Justice Md. Shafiul Alam Mahmud and Judge Md. Mohitul Haque Enam Chowdhury as members.

Alongside Sheikh Hasina, former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal was also sentenced to death, while former IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun, who acted as a royal witness, was sentenced to five years in prison for his role in the crimes against humanity during the July Uprising.
