Dhaka, Nov 21 (V7N) — President Md. Shahabuddin and Chief Advisor to the Interim Government Dr. Muhammad Yunus paid solemn tribute to the martyrs of the Liberation War by placing wreaths at the Shikha Anirban in Dhaka Cantonment on the occasion of Armed Forces Day.
The President placed the first wreath on Friday morning, honoring the supreme sacrifice of the nation’s martyrs. Following him, the chiefs of the Army, Navy and Air Force laid wreaths on behalf of their respective services.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus said the sacrifices made during the July Uprising by students and the general public have created an opportunity to build a new Bangladesh. “We must use this opportunity to create a beautiful and prosperous future,” he said.
He added, “I want to remain committed to the heroic freedom fighters, the martyrs, the wounded, and the living student protesters, so that we can set an example in transitioning to democracy by utilizing the opportunities given to us.”
The Chief Advisor also expressed gratitude to all, including members of the armed forces, for their role in honoring the decorated freedom fighters. Later, he exchanged greetings with the families of the valiant freedom fighters.
