Narayanganj, Nov 21 (V7N) — A newborn girl named Fatema was killed when a wall collapsed during Friday morning’s earthquake in Rupganj, Narayanganj. Her mother, Kulsum Begum, and a neighbor, Jasmine Begum, were seriously injured in the incident.

The tragedy occurred around 10:30 am in the Islambagh No. 5 Canal area of Golakandail Union. Fatema was the daughter of Abdul Haque, a local resident.

According to locals and eyewitnesses, the earthquake caused a roadside wall to suddenly collapse, burying the newborn, her mother, and their neighbor. Fatema died on the spot, and locals later recovered her body from beneath the debris. Kulsum Begum and Jasmine Begum were rescued and taken to a nearby private hospital for treatment.

Inspector Mokhlesur Rahman of the Bhulta Police Outpost confirmed the incident, stating that the newborn died instantly when the wall fell, while both injured women remain under medical care.

The deadly collapse came amid the 5.7-magnitude earthquake that shook the country earlier in the morning, leaving several structures damaged and causing panic among residents.
