Dhaka, Nov 27 (V7N) — The government is advancing its mission to achieve national food self-sufficiency by prioritizing the conservation, development and production of indigenous livestock species, said Fisheries and Livestock Advisor Farida Akhtar.
She made the remarks on Thursday morning after inaugurating the National Livestock Week 2025 with a colorful rally in Dhaka.
For the first time, Livestock Week is being celebrated simultaneously across the country, under the theme:
“Indigenous breeds, modern technology: Livestock will improve.”
The rally began at Manik Mia Avenue and concluded at the Sher-e-Bangla Nagar ground.
Speaking at the event, the advisor emphasized that the government is not in favor of importing unsafe foreign livestock, adding that the long-term goal is to meet domestic demand and eventually build an export market through the production of high-quality indigenous breeds.
She also announced that the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock will, for the first time, award 15 medals in five categories to recognize outstanding contributions to Bangladesh’s fisheries and livestock sectors.
