Dhaka, Dec 10 (V7N)- Local Government Advisor Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan has confirmed that he will contest the upcoming election, though he did not specify from which party or constituency. He clarified that it would be incorrect to assume that he will run as a candidate of the National Citizens Party (NCP), adding that no final decision has yet been made.

Speaking to reporters, Asif Mahmud emphasized the importance of maintaining the integrity of the advisory post. “Even though there is no legal obligation, there should be no election from the advisory post. My resignation will be announced officially through the Chief Advisor’s press wing. This is a high-level decision,” he said.

He added that during his tenure, he has upheld the spirit of the July Uprising, avoided corruption, submitted his asset declaration, and surrendered his diplomatic passport. A meeting of the Advisory Council has been scheduled for tomorrow, though he did not reveal when he will formally resign from his position.

When asked whether he had already submitted his resignation, Asif Mahmud refrained from giving a direct answer.
