Dhaka, Dec 13 (V7N)- Home Affairs Advisor Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has announced a reward of Tk 50 lakh for anyone providing information leading to the arrest of those involved in the attack on Inqilab Mancha spokesperson and independent MP candidate for Dhaka-8 constituency Sharif Osman Hadi.
The announcement was made while the advisor briefed reporters at around 2:00 pm on Saturday. He also revealed that the government has decided to launch “Operation Devil Hunt Phase-2 (Fei-2)” across the country to further strengthen and accelerate ongoing law enforcement efforts to recover looted and illegal weapons.
Meanwhile, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) said that one of the attackers has already been initially identified. In a press release issued on Saturday afternoon, the DMP urged anyone with information about the suspect to contact the police immediately. Authorities assured that the identity of informants will be kept strictly confidential, and an appropriate reward will be provided.
Sharif Osman Hadi was shot by miscreants on Friday at around 2:15 pm while traveling by rickshaw in front of the Bijoynagar water tank in the capital. According to police, two men on a motorcycle opened fire at close range before fleeing the scene.
Critically injured, Osman Hadi was first taken to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital and later transferred to Evercare Hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment.
Law enforcement agencies have intensified operations in the capital and surrounding areas in an effort to apprehend those responsible for the attack.
