Dhaka, Dec 14 (V7N) — President Mohammed Shahabuddin and Chief Adviser of the interim government Professor Muhammad Yunus paid deep tribute to the nation’s martyred intellectuals on the occasion of Martyred Intellectuals Day.

At 7:00 am on Sunday, the President laid a wreath at the Martyred Intellectuals Memorial in Mirpur. Twenty minutes later, Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus also paid his respects by placing a wreath at the memorial. Following the tribute, both leaders stood in solemn silence for a while to honor the memory of the slain intellectuals.

On the occasion, a smartly turned-out contingent of the Bangladesh Armed Forces rendered a state salute, while a mournful tune was played on the bugle, adding to the solemnity of the moment.

After paying homage, the President and the Chief Adviser separately exchanged greetings with members of the advisory council, senior civil and military officials, war-wounded freedom fighters, and other invited guests present at the memorial.

December 14 is observed annually as Martyred Intellectuals Day in Bangladesh to commemorate the intellectuals who were brutally killed in 1971 during the final days of the Liberation War.
