Dhaka, Dec 14 (V7N) — Newly appointed Youth and Sports Advisor Dr. Asif Nazrul has said that although it is an honor to take on the responsibility of the Sports Ministry, there is nothing to celebrate given the current situation in the country, particularly following the shooting incident involving Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Osman Hadi.
He made the remarks after assuming office at the Secretariat on Saturday morning.
Dr. Asif Nazrul praised the initiatives taken by the previous advisor, Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan, stating that significant progress had been made in the youth and sports sectors during his tenure.
Expressing his intention to maintain continuity, the new advisor said that efforts would be made to build on previous achievements, while also taking firm action against any allegations of corruption in the sector.
He emphasized that sports development outside Dhaka would be given priority, adding that steps would be taken to revitalize stadiums and sports activities at the local level, where the ministry maintains offices.
Referring to the overall national situation, Dr. Asif Nazrul said, “I cannot say that I am assuming this responsibility with a happy heart. But I am fully aware of my responsibility.” He reiterated his commitment to ensuring transparency and strengthening grassroots-level sports infrastructure across the country.
