Savar, Dec 16 (V7N) — President Md. Shahabuddin and Chief Adviser to the Interim Government Dr. Muhammad Yunus paid solemn tribute to the nation’s best sons at the National Martyrs’ Memorial in Savar at dawn on the occasion of the Great Victory Day on Tuesday.

As the first rays of the sun appeared, the President and the Chief Adviser laid wreaths at the memorial and stood in silence for some time to honor the brave freedom fighters who laid down their lives during the Liberation War of 1971.

During the President’s tribute, a smartly turned-out contingent from the Bangladesh Army, Navy and Air Force rendered the national salute, while a bugle sounded a mournful tune in remembrance of the martyrs.

After paying homage, President Shahabuddin exchanged greetings with members of the Advisory Council, senior military officials, valiant freedom fighters, and family members of the martyred heroes.

Meanwhile, marking the Great Victory Day, the Bangladesh Army also paid tribute to the martyrs by firing a 31-gun salute at the old Tejgaon airport in the capital.

The nation observes December 16 each year with due reverence, commemorating the victory achieved through immense sacrifice and reaffirming its commitment to the ideals of the Liberation War.
