Dhaka, Feb 02 (V7N) — Shafiqul Alam, press secretary to the Chief Advisor, has stated that the government is confronting a wave of misinformation surrounding the upcoming national elections and referendum.
Speaking at a dialogue at Dhaka International University on Monday afternoon, Shafiqul Alam said the interim government’s capacity to tackle false information is limited, but efforts are being made sincerely.
He also alleged that some Indian media outlets are regularly spreading false information about Bangladesh, while various individuals are circulating misinformation through anonymous YouTube channels.
Shafiqul Alam emphasized the need for strict implementation of the law to counter such misinformation. He added that if anyone suffers due to the spread of false news, there should be an opportunity for legal action against the responsible parties.
