Dhaka, Feb 20 (V7N) — Sheikh Md. Sajjat Ali, Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, has described the recent altercation between a trader and a consumer rights magistrate in Chawkbazar as an “undesirable incident,” warning that such behavior must not be repeated.
The remarks came on Friday afternoon (February 20) after the commissioner held a meeting with leaders of the Moulvibazar Traders Association in the capital.
Incident and Response
The dispute took place a day earlier when officials from the consumer rights authority conducted a market monitoring drive. Traders later informed the DMP chief that the individual involved had visited the consumer rights office and expressed regret over the incident.
Warning Against Food Adulteration
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, the commissioner issued a strong warning against food adulteration, saying those who tamper with food are “enemies of the country and the nation.”
He also called on traders to remain vigilant so that essential commodity prices stay within reach of consumers during the holy month of Ramadan, emphasizing the importance of maintaining market discipline and public trust.
Officials said law enforcement will continue to monitor markets closely to ensure compliance and prevent any recurrence of similar incidents.
