Dhaka, February 28 (V7N) – Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has assured that the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) government will ensure complete independence of the media and uphold the autonomy of the judiciary. The statement came during his visit to the offices of Prothom Alo on Saturday (February 28).

Addressing the media, the Home Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to holding those responsible for the recent Prothom Alo fire accountable. “We have instructed the administration to complete the investigation and submit a charge sheet within the next two months. Exemplary punishment will be given to those involved,” he said.

Salahuddin Ahmed acknowledged the global attention the incident received, saying, “We have been ashamed all over the world. A wrong message was sent that media in Bangladesh can be attacked at will. We will counter this through an exemplary trial. No one can stop the progress of Bangladesh by committing such acts.”

Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman also joined the visit, stating that such atrocities have no place in a civilized society and noting that the incident damaged Bangladesh’s reputation both locally and internationally.

Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan further asserted that the forces behind the attack have been exposed and vowed that the government will prevent such anti-civilizational elements from flourishing.

The Home Minister reaffirmed, “Complete independence of the media is part of our manifesto. The independence of the judiciary will also be ensured.”

This visit underscores the government’s resolve to protect journalists and media institutions while ensuring justice for the Prothom Alo fire incident.
