Dhaka, Apr 22 (V7N) — The Bangladesh Road Transport Owners Association has instructed transport operators across the country not to increase bus fares until a formal government decision is announced.

Official directive

In a press release issued on Tuesday, Secretary General Saiful Alam said that all transport owners must continue to follow the existing fare chart.

He emphasized that:

  • No passenger should be charged above the current rates

  • Any fare adjustment must wait for an official government notification

Pressure on transport sector

The statement acknowledged that the transport sector is currently under growing financial strain, particularly due to rising fuel prices and maintenance costs.

Call for fare revision

Transport leaders have urged the government to quickly and rationally revise fares in line with increased operational costs, warning that delays could affect the stability of the sector.

Current situation

The directive comes amid public concern following recent fuel price hikes, with authorities yet to finalize any changes to public transport fares.
