Dhaka, May 04 (V7N) — Prime Minister Tarique Rahman held a high-level meeting with officials from the Ministry of Textiles and Jute and relevant stakeholders to discuss the reopening of closed jute mills.

The meeting was held on Monday morning at the Prime Minister’s Office in the Secretariat. It was attended by Textiles and Jute Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir and State Minister Md. Shariful Alam, along with other concerned parties.

Earlier in April, the ministry announced that six closed government-owned jute mills would be reopened through private sector initiatives within six months. The government also plans to reopen or lease the remaining mills in phases.

Officials believe that these steps will help attract investment, increase exports, and create employment opportunities in the country.

The meeting reviewed the progress of these initiatives and discussed ways to speed up their implementation as part of efforts to revive the jute sector.
